Ryan Holmes


Thought leader, dog lover and serial entrepreneur, he has redefined the face of social media – bringing Twitter, Facebook and other social networks out of the dorm room and into the boardroom.

Ryan has grown Hootsuite from a lean startup to a leader in social media with over 11M users. A college drop-out, he started a paintball company & pizza restaurant before founding Invoke Media, the company that developed Hootsuite in 2009.



Meredith Powell


Meredith Powell bootstrapped brand management and business strategy agencies in the fashion industry, working with the likes of Saks, Urban Outfitters,  and Vice, and dressing top celebs & influencers across North America.

Prior to founding TNBT, Meredith launched the world's largest B2B ecomm fashion wholesale platform. Today she pays it forward as a dedicated startup mentor, advisor & consultant, as well as activist on behalf of women and youth in entrepreneurship & technology.




Joanna Buczkowska-McCumber

Managing Director

Joanna is an impact leader, start-up strategist,  entrepreneur advocate driven to explore and build new ways to enhance business to create social change. She is driven to bringing changemaking ideas from concept to reality through all her work. 

She was a founding member of the Centre for Social Innovation & Impact Investing and co-creator of the award winning Coast Capital Savings Innovation Hub. She has curated the annual Propelling Social Ventures conference, led a multimedia design startup, and works closely with early stage entrepreneurs to amplify the impact of their ventures.

Today, Joanna steers the ship at TNBT as Managing Director, while acting as a advisor and mentor to many entrepreneurs in the community building social impact businesses. 



Marlon Thompson

Program Manager

Marlon cut his teeth in the start-up community working with high-growth Vancouver-based companies such as Indochino, Kit and Ace, and Strike Movement.

He led the launch of Indochino's retail division in 7 new markets in North America and built the operational framework for Kit and Ace's Global stores. 

Marlon is very involved in the start up community, and is passionate about accelerating innovative ideas. Outside of work he acts as a community rep on the Foundation of Hope Grant Committee

As Program Manager Marlon is dedicated to delivering & developing the best possible version of TNBT's fellowship program and prepping the next generation of entrepreneurs reaching their potential.  



Christina Hirukawa

Director of Development

Christina is a non-profit communications and development specialist, experienced in fundraising and investment development in the Arts and Culture sector.

She has an MA in Art History & Design and a strong knowledge base of creative industries and corporate philanthropy in Canada and the UK. Christina has developed corporate partnerships with the likes of Barclay’s, Vodaphone, and Sage.

Christina manages Philanthropic Development at TNBT, while remaining engaged in the arts and culture community as a freelance art consultant and appraiser. Contact Christina here.

Manny Padda

Investor in Residence

Manny Padda is an entrepreneur, angel investor, and philanthropist based in Vancouver, B.C. A self-made entrepreneur who built his first multi-million-dollar company at age 26, Manny is dedicated to providing education and mentorship to today’s youth. He is the founder of New Avenue Capital,a global firm focusing on four fundamental pillars: investment, lending, recruitment, and philanthropy, and co-founder of GradusOne, an organization that connects students with resources to help them refine their career path and achieve success.  

Manny sits on a number of advisory boards in the education and not-for-profit sectors. Manny is also an active advisor and angel investor globally and in Vancouver's tech community, having personally invested in local start-ups including Picatic, MyBestHelper, ShareShed, and MTT.

Manny was recently awarded the Canadian Angel Investor of the year and BIV’s Top 40 under 40.


Jon Cartwright

Entrepreneur in Residence

Jon is a self-made entrepreneur based out of Vancouver, BC. As TNBT's Entrepreneur in Residence, Jon brings first hand experience in building a company from the ground up. Jon is a true entrepreneur with a passion for market testing, product development and execution. 

Jon founded his first company, Foodee, in 2012 when he recognized that a customer-focused food delivery service could expand business for local restaurants. He address that need by building a web-based restaurant delivery service that has since expanded across North America into 10 major cities. 

Jon is an active member of the technology and startup community. In addition to his work at TNBT, he acts as an advisor at, Head of Growth at Zolo Realty and continues to serve as Chairman at Foodee."





Chaney Cheung

Community Manager

Chaney is an aspiring digital marketer with a focus in social media marketing. 

He's also very passionate about entrepreneurship and loves seeing creative ideas transform into opportunities.  Chaney founded Miniyou, which creates miniature figurines that are hand sculpted using your photographs.  

Chaney has been supporting the TNBT online community, and bringing his special flare to our social media strategy.  It's also been great to be working out of the coolest offices in Vancouver.
